Wearable robotics constitutes an emerging technology that promises to revolutionize manufacturing by improving job quality and productivity. However, the full potential of exoskeletons cannot be realized without the tools and methodologies that establish proof of value prior to their deployment in any given field or manufacturing process.
The motivation to use exoskeletons in industry is two-fold: the improvement in workplace ergonomics and the optimization of the production system.
But before companies can benefit from the advantages of exoskeletons, their workers must accept them. A thorough multi-faceted evaluation on the impacts of introducing an exoskeleton in a workplace and application area is therefore essential.
InteX overcomes these barriers by creating a new category of evaluation services, allowing exoskeleton providers and exoskeletons consumers be confident that an exoskeleton is a practical and cost-effective solution to their specific challenges in work health, safety and productivity.
Unlike other existing evaluation methods focused only on productivity, usability and ergonomics, using only subjective methods, the InteX process is based on objective data extracted via the physical test beds and processing algorithms that will have been proven to provide an accurate assessment of the utility of a given exoskeleton in each working environment.
InteX goes even further by relating measurements in pursuit of a complete/holistic view, and providing a simple, turnkey process to acquire data that nevertheless are intrinsically correlated with task duration, muscle activity, cardiovascular demand, metabolic cost, range of motion, balance, questionnaires, and perceived exertion. Finally, through an easy-to-use methodology and user interface, you will receive reliable assessments of exoskeleton benefits to a given task.
We standardise metrics to understand and improve the usability, safety and results, both in terms of health and productivity, of different devices for different and varied workplaces, as are the automotive, aeronautics, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing, healthcare aids, agriculture and building sectors.

The number of people with musculoskeletal conditions is rapidly increasing because of ageing. In Europe, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the most common work-related health problem and a major cause of temporary incapacity with a direct economic cost of (more than 205 billion € per year. Indirect costs (lost productivity, product defects, etc.) of an MSD case can be up to five times the direct costs.
These demographics affect not only the manufacturing industry, but any industry that performs manual handling with lifting, placing, pushing, pulling, or moving actions, such as the logistics & warehousing, healthcare aides, agriculture and building sectors.
